The Naim NAP-250 is in our opinion an underestimated amplifier – reading the specs it doesn’t set the world on fire, however the specifications seldom reveal the true nature of an amplifier.
This black brick of an amp is highly capable, and drives speakers with tremendous accuracy and authority for it’s price. You might think that the labelled 80W per channel is a little light at this price, however the transient output of 400VA gives some hint of what it s capable of.
Although this amp isn’t large, you wouldn’t want to drop it on your toes as it weighs nearly 16Kg.
We have paired it with many items of Naim equipment of course, but also with a variety of other sources and pre-amps, where it seems to punch way above it’s weight.
We make a dedicated Phono to XLR cable to plug it into other manufacturer’s sources – one of our current favourite combinations is the Linn Akurate DSM as a source / pre-amp, driving the Naim Nap-250, and in turn connected to a pair of DALI Rubicon 6 loudspeakers via some Naim NAC-A5 speaker cable.
