Linn LP12 rejuvenation

Rejuvinated Linn LP12 from 1987

This Linn LP12 brought in for an “interim” upgrade in order to enjoy rediscovering a vinyl collection prior to a more significant upgrade in the future.

Dating from about 1987, this turntable had not been touched since, and after 39 years was in need of a little TLC.

Together with the customer, we decided on an interim upgrade to Cirkus bearing, VP Revolution power supply, new Motor, Drive belt and Mat, new Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge, and full service and setup.

The original Valhalla PSU was in a poor state, and the motor was very stiff, so replacing these was high on the wish list. The Linn Basik Plus tonearm however was in excellent condition, so this is kept for now.

The turntable did not give up without a fight ,and one of the motor mounting bolts had to be drilled out in order to get the old motor off… This was from the era when everything had to be massively over-tightened. There is a point to doing things up tight, however one can over do it!

The result is a great looking and sounding turntable with a whole new lease of life, plus it now plays 45rpm too at the press of a button!
