The Paradigm Reference Signature Sub2, is one of the most awesome pieces of kit we’ve ever had in our showroom. It is not for the faint hearted though as it weighs a hefty 106Kgs and had us puffing and wheezing to get it into place.
Once installed connected and turned on, it at first had us wondering what the fuss was about, but then we cranked up the volume – oh my! This is a beast that can easily catch you off guard, however with the Paradigm PBK room EQ silencing all of the regular room nasties, the Sub 2 showed us what we’ve been missing in all of our favourite movie tracks.
The power of this is immense, however it is precisely applied when needed, and silent as a lamb when not. With one of these you’ll never need to apply a “Butt Shaker” or other vibration device to your sofa, but if you’re at all enthusiastic with the volume, the neighbours will be looking for earthquake reports.
What we didn’t expect was the wealth of sub detail that was exposed – I suppose that it might have something to do with the wild grins and spleen-rending volume, but soundtracks burst into life in a way that we hadn’t experienced before. The pace and dynamism meant that it opened up a world of low frequency effects that didn’t have you lunging for the volume to turn it down – quite the opposite in fact! to call it punchy is like saying David Haye is a Boxer, technically correct, but missing the point. This is probably the best sub you can get that will actually (just!) fit in to the average living room. The Living room would have to be large though to justify one of these rather than it’s smaller brother.
